New Therapies in the ADELI Center

Dear Parents and Friends,

We would like to inform you that since the beginning of 2016, we have added several new therapies into the treatment programme. Few of them were already available in previous years, but they have not been utilized into their full potential – you can now request any of these therapies to be added to your treatment programme, after consultation with your attending doctor.

Hydrotherapy

IMG_4523Hydrotherapy relieves the exhausted musculoskeletal system. The bath has a temperature of 34-37 ° C and depending on the type of additives, which increase its efficiency, it can have relaxing, stimulating or regenerative effect.

“Spider – UGUL” therapy:

The therapy consists of two components: suspension (ugul) and vertical (spider).

The ugul-therapy is carried out by using the suspension apparatus, which is used to fix the patient in a certain position. The patient then exercises on a specially equipped table in different positions (prone, supine, on side, on all four extremities). The patient can also exercise passively (with weights), active-passively or completely actively.

1eDuring the spider therapy, the patient exercises in different verticalised positions with the aid of elastic bands that are fixed on the waist. The patient carries out active and active-passive exercises with the help of various tools (unstable platform, fit-ball, over-ball, etc.)

Both therapies contribute to strengthening of the entire body posture.

Electro-mechanical hippo-therapy

This therapy uses the characteristic movements of a horse to provide carefully graded motor and sensory input. A foundation is established to improve neurological function and sensory processing, which can be generalized to a wide range of daily activities. HippotherapyADELI uses a horseback riding simulator which seat moves in the shape of a number 8 and builds muscles easily through reflex movement. This 8-shape twist and sway movements, unique in horseback riding, can help strengthen muscles that are not often used in daily life, such as the waist and thigh muscles. It builds core strength while working different muscle groups. This “movement of the horse” influences or facilitates an adaptive response in the patient. The horse’s pelvis has a similar three-dimensional movement to the human’s pelvis at the walk so it helps with the development of fine motor skills, visual motor skills, bilateral control and cognition as well. Rhythmic and repetitive movement of the horse’s pelvis leads to a movement response in the patient’s pelvis which helps to improve coordination, balance, attention, sensory processing and performance in daily tasks.

Art therapy

ArtTerapiaArt therapy is a form of psychotherapy which integrates visual arts to treatment programme. The patient learns to communicate with the outside world, improving his/her concentration, perception, self-expression, self-reflection, and visual and verbal arrangement of experiences. The patient has the opportunity to express his or her feelings, needs, motivations and their processing, which lead the patient to an overall development and better adaptation in life.

Humour therapy

humoterapia“Laughter is the best medicine” actually has real physical benefits as it stimulates the circulatory and immune system. Hearty laugh increases the inhalation of oxygen and its absorption. It reduces stress, while useful endorphins are released and help in the treatment of pain. The mechanism of laughter is triggered in the brain and it affects the way of breathing, facial expression and even the muscles of legs and hands.

“If you want to communicate with someone from the other side of the planet, who speaks a completely different language, the only thing you need to do is to laugh.”

Omi Vista sensorimotor interactive therapy

omivista1“Omi Vista” is an effective treatment of a wide range of physical and developmental disorders, which improves the accuracy of the amplitude of motion of arms and legs. The interactive therapy system allows the patient to perform tasks for correction and development of:

  • Perception (visual and auditory)
  • Communication skills
  • Skills for regulating behaviour
  • Speech activation (understanding of verbal and non-verbal language)

The interactive games allow an improvement of existing gross and fine motor skills, as well as development of new phases of motor skills, handling activities, and coordination of visual-motor activities.

The therapy also improves attention, fixation and perception of colours and shapes. It expands thinking and comparative abilities as well as other areas in the psychological field. All therapies are in the form of a fun game, so children are motivated to physical activity.

The therapist tries to make the patient to have an open palm and controls whether he/she is an active participant in the process of cognition. Contraindications to “Omi Vista” therapy system are frequent epileptic seizures and other contraindication, as determined by the doctor.

Canis-therapy

canisterapiaCanis-therapy is a form of animal-supported therapy. It uses the positive effect of the dog on physical, psychological and social well-being of the human. The dog becomes not only a friend, but also a motivation to movement and rehabilitation. It is a source of new stimuli and it diversifies life. It encourages the improvement of fine motor skills (throwing balls, stroking, mimicking the actions of the dog, etc.) and stimulates the development of new motor skills. The dog helps to reduce loneliness and feelings of solitude, and it promotes spontaneity of expression. It also increases non-verbal communication skills.
